Covid-19 has resulted in an unprecedented pandemic, with approximately 75 million infected and 1.6 million fatalities worldwide in just a year. With the case numbers steadily increasing, researchers are on the lookout for treatment protocols to contain the disease and its rapid spread. One of the minor but important treatments that has recently gained significance is the possibility of using natural therapies in traditional medicine. This form of treatment has been practiced for centuries, typically in China and India, as an ancillary to conventional treatmentsv for a variety of illnesses. The advancements in science and technology now offer researchers and healthcare practitioners opportunities to revive and explore these age-old treatments. Moreover, various studies have shown that natural treatments can provide assistance against Covid-19 symptoms in some cases. The efficacy and safety of these natural treatments largely rely on the precise dosage and application of therapeutics before-hand in order to formulate an optimal therapy. Studies also suggest that a combination therapy generally has more success and safety than monotherapy. In cases of Covid-19, some previously practiced treatments, such as traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda, have started gaining popularity. Proven treatments such as TCM include herbs like ginger and turmeric, and supplements like zinc, selenium and vitamin C. Apart from that, Ayurvedic treatments such as yoga, meditation and naturopathy are also quite popular. The World Health Organization has also shared some guidelines on the role of traditional medicine for Covid-19. As more and more progress is made on understanding Covid-19 better, traditional medical practices have the potential to become a major part of the whole process.
