Traditional medicine is an ancient means of treating diseases, relying primarily on natural herbs and plants to achieve therapeutic benefits. With the rise of many chronic diseases across the world, such as diabetes, people have been seeking natural treatments for a range of complications from this serious disease. One of the primary methods of achieving healthy levels of blood glucose is through the use of traditional medicine. A variety of plants can be used to help regulate blood glucose levels. Many of the natural ingredients found in traditional medicine reduces insulin resistance. For example, the plant Gymnema sylvestre has been extensively studied for its effects on diabetes management. It is known to reduce glucose production in the liver and increase glucose uptake in the body’s cells. It works by controlling the enzymes that break down dietary carbohydrates into sugars, thus helping to slow down the release of glucose into the bloodstream. Cinnamon is another plant-based remedy commonly used in traditional medicine to control blood glucose levels. Its active ingredients are known to reduce the formation of fat in the liver, as well as lower levels of glycosylated hemoglobin in the bloodstream. Cinnamon also increases insulin sensitivity, allowing the body to more effectively process and use sugar. Lastly, the medicinal plant bitter melon has long been used to help regulate blood glucose levels. It works by counteracting insulin resistance, and it also appears to inhibit glucose absorption from the intestines, preventing it from entering the bloodstream. In conclusion, traditional medicine offers a range of natural remedies to help reduce and manage high blood glucose levels. All of these remedies have evidence to support their use in diabetes treatment and management. Although traditional medicine should not be used as a sole treatment for diabetes, it may have the potential to provide further benefits when used in conjunction with modern therapy.
