Cardiovascular System

Cardiovascular System

The cardiovascular system in traditional medicine encompasses the heart and its associated blood vessels, which is responsible for the circulation of blood throughout the body. Traditional medicine recognizes the important role the cardiovascular system plays in keeping the body in balance and has used its principles for thousands of years to help improve patient's health. Traditional medical treatments for the cardiovascular system include herbalism, food therapy, acupuncture, acupressure, and exercise. Herbalism has been used for centuries to heal ailments and disorders of the cardiovascular system in traditional medical practice. Herbal medicines are typically prepared by boiling plant materials in water and usually drunk as a tea. Herbalism’s aim is to restore balance and harmony to the body by targeting the issue at its root. Herbs for the cardiovascular system include hawthorn, sweet clover, garlic, ginger, and Oregon grape, among others. Food therapy is another important component of traditional medicine and is used to improve heart health. Healthful nutrition is the foundation of health, and this is even truer for the cardiovascular system. Food therapy focuses on a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes, and lean protein, as well as avoiding too much sugar and saturated fat. Acupuncture is another traditional Chinese medical treatment for the cardiovascular system. The aim is to remove energy blockages and balance the body's qi, allowing for optimal health. Acupuncture is believed to target a number of cardiovascular system issues, including hypertension, heart rhythm irregularities, and angina. Acupressure is similar to acupuncture, but with a focus on pressing certain acupuncture points in order to trigger the release of endorphins. This technique is commonly used to reduce stress levels, which can put undue pressure on the cardiovascular system. Exercise is also essential for proper cardiovascular health. The American Heart Association recommends performing at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week to maintain good heart health. Exercise will also help to strengthen the heart muscle, allowing it to better pump blood throughout the body. In all, the cardiovascular system is an important aspect of traditional medicine. Herbalism, food therapy, acupuncture, acupressure, and exercise are all components of traditional medical treatments for the cardiovascular system. When combined, these treatments can be used to promote the optimal health of the cardiovascular system.
