Biomolecular And Clinical Aspects

Biomolecular And Clinical Aspects

Traditional medicine is defined as the sum total of knowledge, skills and practices based on the theories, beliefs and experiences indigenous to different cultures that is used to maintain physical, mental and social well-being. Traditional medicine has been used for thousands of years in many ancient human civilizations as a healthcare approach. Traditional medicine has been a mainstay in many countries worldwide, being practiced by various countries across the world. Its uses range from curing physical ailments to alleviating psychological distressv. It often plays an important role in the prevention and maintenance of one's health, as it is bent on restoring the energy balance, vitality, and harmony that are essential for optimal health. Biomolecular and clinical aspects in traditional medicine have been studied extensively in recent years. It is increasingly being recognized as an attractive and effective system in the health sector. Traditional medicine systems afford the opportunity to incorporate the gained knowledge into modern healthcare systems and thus use new techniques and technological advances to improve and sustain the practice and safety of traditional medicine. Biomolecular and clinical approaches to traditional medicine may lead to new insights in understanding the biochemical basis of some diseases, as well as new therapeutic strategies in prevention and treatment. Recent research has suggested that biomolecular-based diagnostic approaches could detect health risks associated with specific traditional medicines. For instance, it has been observed that certain traditional medicines can contain bioactive substances that can induce adverse reactions when administered at inappropriate dosages or inappropriate intervals. In such cases, the use of efficient and economical molecular technologies, such as DNA-based genetic markers, allow scientists to monitor potential health risks and facilitate a better understanding of the usage and safety of traditional medicines. Furthermore, clinical studies in traditional medicine can provide useful insights into the efficacy and safety of traditional medicines. Such studies usually consist of systematic reviews of the literature to investigate the efficacy and safety of particular traditional medicines. Traditional medicine’s pharmacological activities with certain components and extracts have also been evaluated and compared to that of standard, western-based drugs. This allows traditional medicine to be tailored specifically to individual symptoms, and potentially offer an alternative effective treatment. Overall, biomolecular and clinical approaches to traditional medicine can improve its potential utilization in health maintenance, as well as provide evidence for its efficacy and safety.
