Flower Therapy

Flower Therapy

Flower therapy, an ancient remedy used to improve physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing, has a long history in traditional medicine. The practice draws upon the therapeutic properties of a variety of plants and flowers, making use of physical contact, inhalation, or the ingestion of extracts to treat physical, mental, and emotional complaints. Research from a variety of fields has suggested that flower therapy can be beneficial for improving physical health, emotional wellbeing, and relationships. Flower extracts may have anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as serving as antioxidants that can help reduce the effects of free radicals in the body. Inhaling flower extracts or taking extract-based medicines may help reduce stress levels, and community studies have suggested that couples may benefit from therapy using flower extracts. In traditional Chinese medicine, flower extracts are commonly used to treat emotional issues, such as depression or anxiety, and are also commonly used to sooth skin complaints such as eczema and psoriasis. Flower extracts may help reduce inflammation and have been shown to have anti-spasmodic properties that can help relax muscles. In Ayurvedic medicine, potion of oils and extracts from flowers and herbs are used to promote relaxation, encourage deeper sleep, and reduce symptoms from coughs and colds. In some cultures, it is believed that flower therapy can help improve relationships as well. As flower therapy grows in popularity, it is important to note that flower remedies should not be used to replace medications prescribed by a healthcare professional. Flower remedies should always be used with caution and, as with any type of herbal remedy, always consult a scientific professional before use. Additionally, only remedies that are made to a high standard should be used, as some suppliers may use substandard products or have not been tested for safety. With appropriate precautions in place, flower therapy can be a useful addition to traditional medicine.
