Title : Retrospective analysis of softening the liver and strengthening the spleen therapy in children with precocious puberty of spleen deficiency and liver hyperactivity type

Abstract:

Objective: To explore the clinical efficacy and mechanism of liver softening and spleen strengthening therapy in children with central precocious puberty of spleen deficiency and liver hyperactivity type.
Method: This study selected children with central precocious puberty of spleen deficiency and liver hyperactivity type who visited outpatient department of Children’s hospital of Fudan University from March 2020 to May 2024 as the research subjects. A total of 62 pediatric patients were collected and treated with liver softening and spleen strengthening therapy. The efficacy of liver softening and spleen strengthening therapy is evaluated by analyzing the height growth rate, bone age changes, sex hormone levels, and changes in IGF-1 and IGFBP3 before and after treatment in these children.
Result: The results showed that the liver softening and spleen strengthening therapy can effectively inhibit the rapid growth of bone age (BA-CA ratio, Boys: 1.17±0.02 vs. 1.10±0.02, p<0.05); Girls: 1.23±0.02 Vs. 1.13±0.02, p<0.05), while the growth rate of the child's height increased (boys: 6.86±0.67 Vs. 12.65±1.05cm/y, p<0.05, girls: 6.95±0.32 Vs. 8.81±0.44cm/y, p<0.05). The liver softening and spleen strengthening therapy can reduce the levels of sex hormones in children (girls, E2: 121.5±9.87 vs. 89.74±10.01pmol/L, p<0.05); Boys, T: 5.33±0.57 vs. 3.31±0.59pmol/L, p<0.05) and increased serum IGF-1 (girls: 189.7±7.88 vs. 273.6±23.58ng/mL, p<0.05; Boys: 265.8±18.09 vs. 329.8±19.48ng/mL, p<0.05), IGFBP3 levels (girls: 5.03±0.09 vs. 6.50±0.26μg/L, p<0.05); Boys: 5.56±0.19 vs. 6.43±0.26μg/L, p<0.05).
Conclusion: The liver softening and spleen strengthening therapy can effectively reduce the levels of sex hormones in children, inhibit the rapid progression of bone age, and increase the levels of serum IGF-1 and IGFBP3, thereby increasing their growth rate.
