Title : The maternal reflection in autism: A homeopathic journey with a bird remedy
Abstract:
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental condition characterized by persistent deficits in social communication together with restricted, repetitive patterns of behaviour and sensory processing abnormalities. Despite advances in behavioural therapies and educational interventions, many children continue to experience significant functional limitations, prompting families to seek complementary therapeutic approaches. This chapter presents the homeopathic management of a two-and-a-half-year-old boy diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder associated with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The child exhibited delayed speech, impaired social interaction, absent response to his name, repetitive jumping, hyperactivity, possessiveness, violent outbursts, disturbed sleep, sensory peculiarities, and marked attraction to water. During case analysis, particular attention was paid not only to the child's individual symptoms but also to the emotional and psychological state of the mother before and throughout pregnancy. The maternal history revealed emotional rejection of the pregnancy, disappointment regarding the gender of the child, feelings of betrayal, and profound internal conflict.
Although Falcon peregrinus ranked low in the repertorization, it emerged as the most individualizing remedy when the child's symptomatology was interpreted alongside the maternal emotional narrative. Progressive improvement was observed over successive follow-ups, including remarkable gains in speech, language comprehension, social interaction, behavioural regulation, and adaptive functioning. Serial developmental assessments demonstrated substantial clinical improvement, with the Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS) score improving from the autistic range to the "No to Minimal Symptoms" category. This case illustrates the importance of individualized prescribing beyond numerical repertory ranking and highlights the potential value of understanding the mother–child dyad during homeopathic case analysis. While a single case cannot establish efficacy, it demonstrates how careful individualization may contribute to meaningful clinical improvement in selected patients with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
