Title : Role of unani medicine in preventing childhood diseases during monsoon
Abstract:
Monsoon is the time to relish the season but simultaneously it leads to a surge in various type of infections in children. Common ailments during the season are Malaria, Chikungunya, Dengue, Gastrointestinal, Respiratory and various skin issues. The main reasons behind these diseases are low immunity, poor sanitation and water stagnation in various areas. Unani medicine keeps a holistic approach to treat and prevent such issues. Children are having very low immunity, and they easily get affected by small environmental changes. The Unani principle is mainly based on maintenance of balance between four humours i.e. blood, phlegm, yellow bile and black bile through herbal remedies, dietotherapy and various regimental therapies. The main aim is to strengthen immunity and to restore humoral balance. Medicines such as Unnab (jujube), Aslus soos (liquorice), Neem (Azadirachta Indica) etc. are used for their anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and immunomodulatory activity. In addition to medicines, Unani principles also emphasize preventive measures and lifestyle modifications to reduce the effects of environmental changes. The system focusses on the purification of water and air, use of various therapies and decoctions and monsoon specific diet to enhance such changes. The Unani system’s integrative approach holds a significant role in managing monsoon related issues. Integration of these remedies with modern healthcare can bring a complementary and culturally acceptable solution to seasonal health challenges in various tropical and subtropical regions.
