Title : Therapeutic ketosis and the broad field of applications for the ketogenic diet: Ketone ester applications & clinical updates
Lora Cantele is a Registered Clinical Aromatherapist specializing in children with disabilities. Being the mother of a child with Autism, Mrs. Cantele has seen first-hand the impact and challenges families endure within their home, school and the public. She has been member of many support groups for parents of children with disabilities. As a consultant and practitioner, she brought her expertise to a Children’s Home for non-verbal children suffering from life-limiting illnesses and continues to work with children with Autism and other intellectual disabilities and their families. She is a co-author of the Complete Aromatherapy & Essential Oil Handbook for Everyday Wellness and is the editor/publisher of International Journal of Professional Holistic Aromatherapy.
Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and other intellectual disabilities are on the rise. While there is no cure for Autism, there are natural ways to mitigate some of the symptoms and behaviors associated with ASD and other comorbidities.
While these intellectual disorders are often misunderstood, so is the approach to this population and their families. Approaching children with ASD can be challenging for a therapist who does not have first-hand knowledge of living with a child on the spectrum as each child’s needs are unique as related to their comorbidities. Rather than a whole-person approach, the therapist needs to apply a whole-family/caregiver approach. Research has shown that caregivers, parents and siblings of a child on the spectrum also suffer with depression, suicidal ideation, sleep disorder and anxiety.
Ms. Cantele’s will provide an eye-opening look at the world this group and their families live in. Her presentation will focus on the most common concerns with children on the Autism spectrum: irregular sleep, poor digestion, anxiety, and an inability to focus. She will share case studies, highlight successful protocols. She will provide thoughts and information on how to approach this population and how Aromatherapy can be used to care for the caregivers (parents and siblings) who often are impacted emotionally, physically, and mentally due to the challenges of living with someone with Autism or other disability. She will share qualitative information on a study she was involved in which looked at using an aromatherapy blend to enhance Brain Integration Technique in children with Autism.
